Job variable changes in child workflows

Breaking change notice

This breaking change applies to parent and child workflows in the 2023.2 Itential Platform release.

Job variable validation check

When adding a new input job variable or modifying the name of an existing job variable in a child workflow, the childJob task in the parent workflow must be updated to reflect those changes. Previously, if this update was missed, the childJob would not start but no warning was displayed.

In 2023.2, Itential has implemented a validation check that stops the parent workflow from running and prevents it from being saved when a job variable mismatch exists. A caution message alerts you to the mismatch.

What should I do?

When modifying a job variable in a child workflow, always update the corresponding childJob task in the parent workflow. If you still experience issues or need additional assistance, contact the Product Support Team.
