In the initial version of the Itential Automation Services Application, the Client GUI React Application, which runs in a user’s browser, would directly call Itential. As we expanded our support to include other authentication methods, we ran into issues with this architecture and so a decision was made to move the Itential integration to the ServiceNow server.
The new version of the Itential Automation Services Application includes Server Scripted REST API calls. While the Client GUI React Application still runs in a user’s browser, it now makes calls back to the ServiceNow server, which then makes the call to Itential.
The user’s browser no longer needs access to Itential - only the ServiceNow server will need access.
Connectivity to Itential from the ServiceNow server may require firewall or ACL rule changes. Additionally, a MID Server can be inserted to allow ServiceNow access to Itential running in the Customer's private network. Previously, the connectivity to Itential was only reliant upon the browser having access to both ServiceNow and Itential.
