Article Summary

Itential Automation Platform (IAP) is composed of numerous applications, each providing a specialized functionality to the platform as a whole. Due to this structure, it is important that users are able to easily search IAP for the resources they have created, regardless of what application those resources are associated with. The System Search feature of IAP provides a cross-application interface to search the platform for these resources.

To access the System Search feature from the IAP dashboard and search for a resource (Figure 1):

  1. Select the hamburger menu button at the top-left corner of the screen; a menu will appear.
  2. Select System Search from the menu; the System Search panel will appear on the right-hand side of the screen.
  3. Select the search bar at the top of the System Search panel and type the name or tag of the desired resource; matching resources will be displayed in the panel as you type.

Note:

The System Search feature can be accessed in the following IAP applications using the process detailed above:

  • Admin Essentials
  • Automation Studio
  • Operations Manager
  • Configuration Manager

Any resources that match your search query will be displayed in a table view on the System Search panel (Figure 2). Each table row contains the following columns:

Table View Column Header Purpose
Match Displays the name of the resource that was matched to your search query.
Application Displays the associated application of the resource.
Tags Displays any tags assigned to the resource.
Description Displays the description of the resource.

You can manipulate your view of the search results as desired in the following ways:

  • To sort the results by any of the above parameters in ascending or descending order, select the Sort By button located directly above the Description table column.
  • To change the number of results displayed per page in the table view, use the pagination controls at the bottom of the System Search panel.
  • To reload the search results displayed in the table view, select the refresh button located directly above the Match table column.

Once you have located the resource that you want to work with, select its name in the Match table column. You will be redirected to view the resource in its associated application.

Further Reading

The System Search feature makes use of the IAP Search API. As such, System Search will only return results from an application if that application exposes database collections to the Search API. For further information, refer to the Search API documentation.
