# Server name property replaced

> Breaking change notice that the serverName property is deprecated in Platform 6 and replaced with a unique serverId identifier.

The `serverName` property in `properties.json` is deprecated and replaced by `serverId`. If you don't provide `serverId`, Platform defaults to a hashed value derived from the server's MAC address. Each `serverId` must be unique within a Platform instance. Platform logs a warning at startup if `serverName` is still present.

## What should I do?

Replace `serverName` with `serverId` in `properties.json`.

Use `serverId` to assign a unique name to each Itential Platform server in your environment. It provides a consistent alternative to generated IP addresses and can also be used in Blue-Green deployments. For more information, see [Configure server](/itential-platform/configure/network/server).
