# Gateway Manager 1.0.0 feature release

## Introducing Gateway Manager

Gateway Manager is a new application that provides the integration layer between Gateway 5 clusters and Itential Platform. This initial release enables customers to connect Gateway 5 to Itential Platform and incorporate gateway services into Platform workflows.

Gateway Manager 1.0.0 follows [semantic versioning](https://semver.org/) (MAJOR.MINOR.MTCE). This is the initial release of Gateway Manager, introducing core connectivity and integration capabilities.

## What is Gateway Manager?

### Core Capabilities

Gateway Manager provides essential connectivity features between Gateway 5 and Itential Platform:

* **Gateway 5 Cluster Connectivity**: Connect Gateway 5 clusters to Itential Platform deployments
* **Service Integration**: Expose Gateway 5 services as executable tasks within Platform workflows
* **Reverse Connection Model**: Communication initiated from customer network, eliminating tunnel configurations
* **Connection Management**: Centralized management of connections between Platform and gateway clusters
* **Automatic Service Discovery**: Discovers and synchronizes Gateway 5 services automatically for Platform integration
* **Workflow Visibility**: Shows which Platform workflows are associated with each Gateway service

### Security and Access Control

Gateway Manager enforces Itential Platform security model across gateway operations:

* **RBAC Integration**: Leverages Itential Platform's role-based access control for gateway and service management
* **GBAC Support**: Uses group-based access control to manage user permissions across gateway resources
* **Service Group Management**: Provides gateway-specific access control capabilities for service groups
* **Certificate Management**: Secure handling of certificates, gateways, service groups, and services

## Gateway 5 Integration

Gateway Manager is designed specifically to work with Gateway 5 clusters, enabling the enhanced capabilities of Gateway 5 to be utilized within Itential Platform workflows.

## Deployment and Compatibility

Gateway Manager is available as an RPM package for on-premises installations and is compatible with Itential Platform versions IAP 2023.2 and Itential Platform 6. For installation procedures, see [Install Gateway Manager](/itential-gateway/install-gateway-manager).

If you’re using Itential Cloud, you can access Gateway Manager directly from the Itential Platform Dashboard—no installation required. Installation is only required for on-premises deployments.
