Create a DNS A Record (Infoblox) - Pre-Builts

Let’s move into the DNS use case. We will begin by reviewing the Itential Pre-builts that we are using for today’s Workshop.

Step 1

From the IAP dashboard, navigate to Automation Studio using the left navigation panel.

Pre-Builts are found under the Workflows group.

The Pre-Built we need is in the Create a Record – Infoblox group.

Let’s look at the Simple Create a Record – Infoblox workflow.

Step 5

In this workflow, you can see various task types. IAP has four task types: Termination, Automatic, Operational, and Manual.  Let’s define these individually.

Tasks in IAP are color-coded based on their function.  

• Purple tasks are operational tasks.  These are used to control workflows with conditional branches and loops, and to manipulate run time data.
• Green tasks represent automatic tasks.  These tasks will execute without intervention.
• A third type of task is the gray task.  These are manual tasks and require human intervention.
• And then there are the Start and End Termination tasks.

Every automation has Termination tasks at the beginning and the end.  All other tasks in the automation will be placed between the beginning and ending Termination tasks.

Now that we’ve gone over the Itential Pre-built,  we’ll continue with our workshop exercise. What we are going to cover today will include: 

• Building a JSON Form to gather the inputs needed for the automation 
• Building a Transformation (JST) to manipulate the data from form input to the Itential Pre-Built
• Building a Workflow that will put this all together 
• Creating an Operations Manager catalog entry that will tie this together with a manual trigger
